Born of Caterham’s inescapable urge to continually develop the Seven, as well as its ongoing work to hone its acclaimed domestic motorsport programme, the Seven 310 was a happy accident that may just take the Seven to the pinnacle of its prowess.
With an upgraded 1.6-litre Ford Sigma engine, the 310 produces an extra 20bhp. The upgrade was destined to be an aftermarket option but, once the car hit the road, there was no question that it would become a classic in its own right.
Harking back to the Superlight R300 so beloved of Caterham purists, the 310 features the perfect balance between the car’s 155bhp and the Seven’s legendary handling characteristics, making this a confidence-inspiring, intuitive beast that offers the absolute maximum in non‑threatening driving fun.
Once again coming with the S and R packs, depending on whether your focus is the road or the track, the Seven 310 also has an appealing starting price of £27,990.
If Caterham was only going to make one Seven for the rest of its days, this would be it.
The Caterham 270 is powered by the Ford Sigma 1.6 Ti-VCT engine matched to a Mazda 5 speed gearbox producing 152 BHP.
The 310 is available in both the standard 'S3' or wide-bodied 'SV' chassis. The standard S3 chassis offers the compact lightweight dimensions that have made the Seven a legend in its 50 year history.
The SV chassis provides increased interior and luggage space due to the greater width and length of the car, making it suited for extended touring or for customers over 6'2" in height. The SV chassis also benefits from the additional stability offered by wide-track front suspension and increased range from a larger fuel tank, with only a 25kg weight penalty over the standard chassis.
